overview

antaaya

It is an opportunity for Design Educators, Administrators and Educational Policy makers to exchange ideas and experiences that can give new directions for Design and its Education, as well as, reflect jointly upon the curriculum and pedagogy presently in practice, for an equitable, sustainable, and environmentally-secure future, in the post–pandemic emergent scenario.

It is also a celebration of the student talent pool across the institutes and offer them a platform to showcase and share their learning experiences.

essence

'antaaya' refers to the craftsman deity, Vishwakarma - the 'all maker', and like its namesake, this initiative envisions to foster a long-term, collaborative, cross-disciplinary exchange amongst the nation’s finest design schools.

Dod, IITG

The Department of Design(DoD), IIT Guwahati, nestled in the 285 hectare campus overlooking the Brahmaputra river, was set up with a vision to understand, appreciate, contribute to and celebrate design. It has a rich multidisciplinary approach towards teaching and boasts a vast array of labs nurturing different design practice and research areas.

themes

The emerging landscape of Design Education across India, with an array of specialised and minor programs, interwoven across disciplines, is an eclectic one. In this rendition, ‘antaaya 2021’ aims to explore 3 major thematic areas; Design Teaching, Faculty and Staff Development and Design Research, from the post-pandemic lens

design teaching

design faculty & staff development

design teaching

01

‘Thoughts on Design’ Education

Inquiring into what Design schools need to prepare the next generation for with the intent to support new-age skills and competences through multi-modal approaches.

02

Teaching GenZ ‘The Design of the new Everyday Things’

Bridging the gap between the  real-world and studio, to imbibe responsibility, sustainability, and resilience through field experience & problem-based learning.

03

‘Designerly Ways of Knowing’

Leveraging digital tools and technologies to enhance the teaching-learning experience and to offer “personalize-able, accessible, inclusive and engaging” learning.

04

‘Design, Form and Chaos’

Addressing how to design courses, curriculum, pedagogies, team activities, etc., as per the discipline and level of study, to foster a culture of innovation.

05

Developing ‘Reflective Practitioners’

Chalking  out a collaborative train-the-trainers (ToT) initiative to develop competences and collaborations, within and amongst design faculty across the institutes.

06

Decoding the ‘Sciences of the Artificial’

Exploring the myriad research born out of our design schools, which begs to ask, how is design research exemplified across domains and how can we celebrate our ‘unity in diversity’.

In this rendition, ‘antaaya 2021’ aims to explore 3 major thematic areas; Design Teaching, Faculty and Staff Development and Design Research, from the post-pandemic lens

design research

01

‘Thoughts on Design’
Education

Inquiring into what Design schools need to prepare the next generation for with the intent to support new-age skills and competences through multi-modal approaches.

04

‘Design, Form and
Chaos’

Garnering the collective learnings of our peer-group and addressing – How to design courses, curriculum, pedagogies, team activities, etc., as per the discipline and level of study, to foster a culture of innovation?

02

Teaching GenZ ‘The Design of
the new Everyday Things’

Bridging the gap between the  real-world and studio, to imbibe responsibility, sustainability, and resilience through field experience & problem-based learning.

05

Developing ‘Reflective
Practitioners’

Chalking  out a collaborative train-the-trainers (ToT) initiative to develop competences and collaborations, within and amongst design faculty across the institutes.

03

‘Designerly Ways of
Knowing’

Leveraging digital tools, platforms and technologies so as to empower and enhance the teaching-learning experience for different contexts and to offer “personalize-able, accessible, inclusive and engaging” learning.

06

Decoding the ‘Sciences of
the Artificial’

Exploring the myriad research born out of our design schools, which begs to ask, how is design research exemplified across domains and what distinguishes, as well as, unifies them?  And most importantly, how can we celebrate our ‘unity in diversity’.
